The Gunderloch estate rated by the Fine Wine Review, issue 122
Gunderloch Riesling dry 2007
“(...) The wine is round, creamy and silky with length to it spiced pear fruit, yielding overall harmony. There is a good acidity to provide freshness, but no harshness. (...)”
90/B+
Gunderloch Nierstein Pettenthal Riesling dry 2007
“(...) The wine is pure, incisive and stony in the nose. In the mouth it is round, silky and calm with quince fruit and a touch of residual sugar that manifests itself as the roundness, not as sweetness. This is a wine packed with character that develops early. (...)”
93/A
Gunderloch Nackenheim Rothenberg Riesling dry 2007
“(…) As a result it gives a slower-developing wine. Here we have a full, earthy (in the positive sense) nose with great power. In the mouth the wine is creamy with succulence and tremendous depth to its earthy apple and pear fruit and perfect balance. (...)”
95/A
Gunderloch Nackenheim Rothenberg Riesling Auslese*** 2007
“(…) but once tasted, it is a wine that one does not forget; and it is a wine that is superb with a wide variety of foods, especially many types of Asian cuisine. The wine shows earth and chipped stone aromas that are deep and complex. In the mouth it shows some sweetness and a beautiful calm to its deep, nervy, off-dry mouth with its golden plum and quince fruit. The wine is attracitve now, but probably will only begin to show its best in 6-8 years. (...)”
94+/A
Gunderloch Jean-Baptiste Riesling Kabinett 2007
“(…) In the mouth the wine shows golden plums that are precise, although straightforward with a mediumweight body and a long finish. The wine is barely sweet. (...)”
90+/A
Gunderloch Riesling DIVA Spätlese 2007
“(...) It is an outstanding effort with a stony nose followed by nery, pure golden plum and apricot flavors in the mouth and an excellent sugar/acid balance. (...)”
92/A
Gunderloch Nackenheim Rothenberg Riesling Spätlese 2007
“shows much greater greater complexitiy and some honey aspects in the nose. In the mouth the wine is pure sweet and honeyed (but not from botrytis) with yellow plums. The wine needs a little more time to come together. (...)”
93+/A
Gunderloch Nackenheim Rothenberg Riesling Auslese 2007
“(…) which shows beeswax and honey in the nose. The botrytis comes through in the concentration on the palate and the honeyed nougat flavors that are pure and long. The wine is still quite long, sleek and not at all heavy. (...)”
96/A
Gunderloch Nackenheim Rothenberg Riesling Goldkapsel Auslese 2007
“(…) The wine is not a powerhouse; rather it seduces by its complexity and length and should be fabulous in 10-12 years. (...)”
96+/A
Gunderloch Gewürztraminer 2007
“(...) the wine is quite floral in the nose with roses that are typiclal of Gewürztraminer. In the mouth the wine is dry, restained and spicy with good supporting acidity. (...)”

Wine Spectator report: 2006 German Riesling
Again the Gunderloch wines were highly recommended by Bruce Sanderson. We are very happy with the results and hope you will enjoy our wines as much as we love to produce them!

The following wines were tasted and rated by Bruce Sanderson:

2006 Gunderloch Nackenheimer Rothenberg Riesling Auslese - 93 points

Tasting notes: A fresh, pure style of auslese, with a juicy structure supporting the peach, apricot and passion fruit flavors. Has terrific balance. This is so appealing you want to drink it now, but it will improve. Drink now through 2035.

2006 Gunderloch Nackenheimer Rothenberg Riesling Auslese*** - 93 points

Tasting notes: An off-dry style, with verve and intensity. A subtle expression of dried pineapple, apricot and mineral flavors, with a light smokiness. This is balanced and has nice tension between all the elements, with an expansive finish. Drink now through 2020.

2006 Gunderloch Nackenheimer Rothenberg Riesling Auslese Gold Cap - 95 points

This wine was listed under "hot Wines". These wines are the most exciting discoveries from the wine spectator editors´ most recent tastings, published exclusively in Wine Spectator Insider. The wines are high-scoring. Low-production wines from around the world that may be difficult to find, but are worth seeking out.

Bruce Sandersons´tasting notes: Loaded with botrytis, this Riesling evokes concentrated flavors of dried apricot, pineapple and floral elemnts, all displayed deftly on a light weight frame. The structure is submerged now, yet this is set for a long life. Best from 2015 through 2050.

Additionally the 2006 Nackenheimer Rothenberg Riesling Spätlese was rated with 92 points and the 2006 Gunderloch Riesling Kabinett Jean-Baptiste was rated with 88 points.
